AREA: RESEARCH BODY and SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY PARK
AREA Science Park is the leading multi-sector Science and Technology Park in Italy. It is one
of the biggest on the European level.
Upon the Park’s inception, the task of managing the Park was entrusted to a Consortium that,
in consideration of the strong development during the 80s and 90s, became a “Research Body” in
September 1999.
It has been a 1st level National Research Body since 2005. (more info)
The Trieste AREA Science
Park Consortium was created in 1978 to manage the first Italian science park, founded in 1978. In
2005, the Consortium became a 1st level National Public Research Body of the MiUR (Ministry of
Education, University and Research).
The Mission of AREA Science Park is to boost the region's competitiveness and
business attractiveness by:
- supporting business development;
- spreading innovatove products, processes and methods as well as distinctive knowledge and

Created in 1978, the
first in Italy and among the first worldwide, the Park currently hosts 83 companies, including
several international research centres such as Sincrotrone Elettra, ICGEB, ICS.
Filds: Life sciences, biotechnologies for agriculture and food industry,
diagnostics, biomedical technologies, Physics, materials and nanotechnology, IT, electronics and
telecomunications, Energy and Environment, marine ecology and qualified services. |
