TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER SERVICES AND TOOLS OF AREA:
ENTERPRISE
PROFILE (Rapid Strategic Assessment )
Evaluation of technology and strategic positioning by adopting original assessment methods,
business needs analysis, innovation gap analysis and intervention proposals to foster
competitiveness.
PPMS SHEET
Technology Transfer tool, which enables innovation project planning and control. PPMS
(product, process, methodology, service) sheets require the researcher or entrepreneur to collect
and format the essential information required to evaluate the state-of-the-art of technologies, the
competitive environment, competitive advantage, costs, timing and critical success factors. This
structured approach facilitates the collection, systemization and use of relevant data to develop a
winning technology transfer proposal.
PATENT INFORMATION AND DOCUMENTARY EVIDENCE
Information retrieval on the status of inventions and technologies carried out by the European
Network PatLib, accredited by the European Patent Office. The service provides prior research and
patentability, state of the art technology, customized reports on science, technical and industrial
information and trademarks.
TECHNOLOGY ROAD MAPPING
Support in strategic planning by constructing technology roadmaps and highlighting state of
the art and development trends expected for emerging technologies by outlining factors to be
considered when taking decisions: opportunities to be monitored, enabling and limiting factors,
timing, routes, market and technology implications.
INNOVATION PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Identification of best competencies in research and consultancy, evaluation of the solutions
that best fit specific needs, planning, management and monitoring companies’ project innovation.
Coordination of working groups, supporting companies in their transactions with experts, to monitor
each stage in achieving the desired goals.
TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER DATA MINING
(BMINER)
Proprietary Knowledge Management System specifically developed for sharing information related
to technology transfer activities. The software enables collection and storage of key information
on business operators (proactive database on SMEs) and related driven projects. The system
guarantees updated information (project management and workflow design) meanwhile ensuring that
results are constantly monitored.
RATING
Retrieval of strategic international and/or financial data, as well as credit ratings, for
more than 65 million public and private firms spanning 200 countries. Based on world-class complex
engineering methods and using the ORBIS database (a Bureau van Dijk product), the service uses MORE
by modeFinance (an AREA start-up). The system is extremely user-friendly and can be used for
mapping industrial clusters and individual entities.
BENCHMARKING
Analysis of business efficiency in using productive resources evaluated in comparison with
direct competitors using Bench-Profile ®, the benchmarking tool developed by AREA. Starting from
the economic values of the company’s budget, the tool shows where to intervene to reduce costs and
maximize efficiency. It also simulates and evaluates the impact of the proposed changes on
operational results.
NETWORKING
Supporting research and technology supply, expertise and partners through the network of AREA’s
international collaborations. Easy access to MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) knowledge
tools courtesy of an agreement between AREA and MIT Industrial Liaison Program (ILP).
ENTREPRENEURSHIP COACHING
Integrated support program for business development of SMEs, by adopting a suitable action to
enter international markets, create new business opportunities and enhance managerial and
entrepreneurial capacity. The methodology relies on the use of tools developed through proactive
assistance to entrepreneurs by the Project Team assisted by professors from major Business Schools
worldwide with coaching activities and strategic consulting.
PATENTS VALORIZATION
Valorization of intellectual property and services to companies and researchers, support for
economic exploitation through licensing and technology transfer of know-how, such as the search for
potential licensees, sub-suppliers and industrial partners including contracts and feasibility
studies at an international level.
RESEARCH RESULT VALORIZATION
Identification of market potentials and economic exploitation of research results through
methodology and technology assessment. The process provides a comprehensive range of interventions
and services to support researchers, assist them in the choice of alternative paths of
valorization, such as results transfer, R&S partnership and creating spin-offs.
SETTING UP ENTERPRISES
The 'incubator before the first mile’ is an innovative model of pre-incubation. A company
