"BASOVIZZA"
The need to create the campus in Basovizza arose in 1986 after the establishment of the company Sincrotrone (Synchrotron).
A few years later, between 1989 and 1990, land was purchase in view of developing the Park and the first excavation works for the construction of the ring of light started in 1991.
At present the campus offers 44,300 square metres of space and houses 22 centres and hi-tech companies including CBM (Consortium for Molecular Biomedicine), 40% of which is controlled by AREA Science Park which manages the National Molecular Biomedicine District.
The new town planning scheme for the area of Basovizza foresees the possibility of expanding the Campus by a further 40,500 square metres.
The growth of the National Molecular Biomedicine District and the enhancement of the Synchrotron light with the development of the Free-Electron Laser (FEL) are two of the main development objectives of the campus in Basovizza.
