Laboratory of Molecular, Biostructural and Nanomaterial Modeling (LMBNM) of the Consortium
AREA Science Park Trieste (Italy) is a small size non-profit research laboratory with a substantial
expertise in the field of computational molecular, polymer and material research as well as
bioinformatics.
The expertise of LMBNM is mainly in computer-assisted molecular design, ligand-receptor
interaction studies, peptide and protein structure and folding studies, protein homology modeling,
structure-activity relationships, design of nanostructures, polymer studies, computer-assisted
combinatorial chemistry and others.
The laboratory is equipped with modern facilities for computer simulation studies, such as
two Sun Microsystems SunFire X4200 servers, two Sun Microsystems Ultra 40M workstations, Silicon
Graphics Fuel graphical workstation and personal computers. In addition, the laboratory is
furnished with proprietary, public domain and in-house modeling software.

About us
The LMBNM carries out applied computational research in the areas of molecular and material
design, molecular design and optimization, ADME properties prediction, bioinformatics,
computational biology and bioinformatics.
Research
The laboratory is currently involved in the FIRB 2003 research project entitled Nanosized
Cancer Polymarker Biochip (Code No. RBLA03S4SP) carried out by a consortium of nine Italian
universities, research laboratories and industries (https://serviziweb.ulss12.ve.it/firbabo). The
laboratory conducts computational material research on immobilization electrode films for
immunosensors, molecular modeling of antibody-antigen interactions and analysis of structural
properties of cancer markers.
