The Wood & Furnishings Innovation Network Competence Centre was established in San Giovanni al Natisone, in the Industrial Chair District, in collaboration with CATAS spa, Italy’s main research and development institution and testing laboratory for the wood and furnishings sector. The Centre provides assistance to all businesses within the sector in: - improving the way materials are used - developing applications for new materials - using computer-assisted design techniques - improving production processes Some of the topics dealt with: - Innovative methods of wood welding - Wood curving techniques; wood drying and stabilizing systems - Grey water purification and treatment systems using water-dilutable products - Electrochromic glass for new applications in the furnishings sector - Electroactive polymers and resins for new applications in the furnishings sector - Software to control the structure of wooden staircases - Preserving treatments for wood used for external applications - Industrialization of the production of structural parts and internal furnishings for wooden boats - Innovative technology and solutions for reducing the levels of volatile organic compounds in wood varnish - Plasma treatments for PVC - PVC tiles for external paving
