The
Plastics & New Materials Innovation Network Competence Centre is based at the offices of the Polo Tecnologico di Pordenone (Technology Institute of Pordenone), AREA’s partner in the development of this activity.
It offers assistance and services to balance supply and demand in innovation, supporting all the region’s businesses within the plastics sector as well as those interested in finding and using new materials.
In particular, the Centre offers support in:
- Carrying out research on and developing innovative materials and their applications
- Finding new applications of thermoplastics, thermosetting materials and composites
- Analysing product defects and problems in the production process
- Identifying systems for the recovery and recycling of plastics
Some of the topics dealt with:
- Research on an instrument to gauge insulation thickness for tanks
- Research on materials for the production of inflatable bags, such as air bags
- An adhesive system to stick PVC to PMMA
- Research on a material for the production of plastic trays for the food industry
- Gas-permeability testing on insulating films for tanks
- A study of defects in a composite material used in the textile industry
- Plastics poisonous to rats and mice
- Support in creating a machine for crushing plastic (PET) bottles
- Re-use of fibreglass waste
- Recycling production waste (thermoplastics and thermosetting sector)
