In 2010, AREA Science Park launched the CEBBIS project with the objective of establishing a European network of innovation centres that provide new services in a coordinated, joint manner. The services will make considerable use of the most advanced ICT solutions and will be designed to meet specific needs as expressed by local economic players.

The project – in which 10 regional development agencies from Austria, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovenia are partners – foresees the creation and management of 5 new innovation centres, which will be connected in a network. The body in charge of supervising this process will be located in Friuli Venezia Giulia. The CEBBIS project involves comparative study stages in which the current level of innovation, industrial strengths and the potential market gaps are analyzed for each of the specific regions involved.

This will enable the creation of services and provision methods that can overcome existing barriers to innovation, which in turn will facilitate rapid assimilation of new technologies that will contribute to the growth of local businesses. In addition, guidelines will be established for regional development of both innovation and competitiveness in the subject regions. The project’s anticipated results, which will benefit small and medium businesses, may also have a significant impact on regional policies if the solutions and guidelines are developed by the regional governments associated with the project’s partners.
