Report: updated information on AREA employees and tenants
A snap shot of the situation in the science park as at 31st December 2005 in terms of its tenants and employees was taken thanks to a survey carried out by the Information Systems and Tenant Management Service of the AREASciencePark Consortium.
The most important fact emerging from this survey sets the total number of employees working in AreaSciencePark at 1,756. Further 79 people work in the Park for a limited period of time, of at least a month.
Of the above-mentioned 1,765 employees, 960 work directly in research and development, 411 are technicians, 277 work in the administrative/commercial sector and 108 work in other sectors. The general level of education is high: 243 employees have a PhD or post/pre-doctoral fellowship, 822 have a degree, 523 have a secondary school diploma, 131 have a middle school diploma and 37 have other qualifications. 65% of the personnel is aged under 40.
There are 82 internal AREA laboratories and companies, spread amongst the various sites as follows: 51 in Padriciano, 23 in Basovizza, 5 in Polo di Pordenone (Pordenone Technology Centre), 1 in Gorizia, 2 awaiting admission.
The represented areas of science/technology are: Environment (9), Biotechnology and Diagnostics (15), Chemistry and Biochemistry (9), Electronics and Industrial Automation (8), Physics, Aerospace and New Materials (9), Computer Science and Multimedia (11), ELETTRA Synchrotron Light Laboratory (1), Qualified Services (7), Biomedical Technology (5) and Telecommunications (8).
