CEBBIS Catalogue of Pro-Innovative Services
In 2010, AREA Science Park launched the CEBBIS project with the objective of
establishing a European network of innovation centres that provide new services in a coordinated,
joint manner. The services will make considerable use of the most advanced ICT solutions and will
be designed to meet specific needs as expressed by local economic players.
The project – in which 10 regional development agencies from Austria, Germany,
Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovenia are partners – foresees the creation and management of
5 new innovation centres, which will be connected in a network. The body in charge of supervising
this process will be located in Friuli Venezia Giulia. CEBBIS calls for a comparative study phase
to examine the level of innovation, industrial strong suits, and any existing gaps in the areas
involved, in order to plan services and provision standards that can overcome current barriers to
innovation, encouraging the faster absorption of new technologies useful for the growth of local
firms. Additionally, guidelines will be drafted concerning the regional development of innovation
and competitiveness in the areas involved.
This will enable the creation of services and provision methods that can overcome existing
barriers to innovation, which in turn will facilitate rapid assimilation of new technologies that
will contribute to the growth of local businesses. In addition, guidelines will be established for
regional development of both innovation and competitiveness in the subject regions. The project’s
anticipated results, which will benefit small and medium businesses, may also have a significant
impact on regional policies if the solutions and guidelines are developed by the regional
governments associated with the project’s partners. The results, experience and guidelines arising
from the field testing will be disseminated through conferences and workshops. Lead Partner AREA
Science Park – Trieste
The project was launched on 01/04/2010 and will end on 31/03/2013.
The relevant programme is the Central Europe programme managed by the European Union.
Objectives:
Building an inter-regional, Europe-wide innovation network that can facilitate the transfer
of university research results to small and medium enterprises in the regions involved in the
project.
Targets:
SMEs, Research Centres, and Local Development Agencies.
Planned activities:
The project includes several phases. The first focuses on local benchmarking activities in
the regions involved, with the goal of identifying the state of the art in technology and the
market, and identifying and selecting the best innovation policies and management practices for
innovation and technology transfers. The results achieved will be used to compare the various
existing levels of innovation and to identify potential obstacles in innovation development
processes. Building upon these analyses, the project will develop or strengthen tools and methods
to support innovation, particularly methods and techniques to transfer knowledge and technology
from research centres to the enterprises working in strategic productive sectors for the regions
involved.
