"NANOTECHNOLOGY FOR BIOMEDICINE" Technology at the Service of Medicine The project entitled APPLICATION OF NANOTECHNOLOGY TO BIOMEDICINE – Controlled release of drugs in situ and early cancer diagnosis has the mission of creating an interdisciplinary laboratory for life sciences (medicine, biology and pharmacy) and exact sciences (physics and chemistry), in order to work on the application of nanotechnology and the relative nanomanufacturing techniques to the biomedical field (and especially to early cancer diagnosis).
The project was approved in 2005, as part of the State/Regional Framework Agreement on scientific research. It is managed and coordinated by AREA, with the involvement of the CBM Scarl - Consortium for Molecular Biomedicine. Its main objective is the creation of innovative devices, such as a drug delivery system based on interactive nanocarriers and “micro labs-on-chip”, which can be controlled remotely and are able to gather and transmit data, playing an active treatment role within the patient’s body.
