AbstractA London university has developed a system that intelligently assesses the needs
of the individual office worker, and responds by controlling the microclimate within the individual
area. They are looking for joint development with industry.
DescriptionA London university has developed a system that intelligently assesses the
needs of the individual office worker and responds by controlling the microclimate within the
individual area, and delivers optimal control of selected set of parameters without customer
intervention. The heart of the system is a physiological monitoring system that is used to
establish the needs of the individual worker and provide optimal working environment.

Innovations and advantages of the offer
The main pillar of the project is a physiological monitoring system that utilises a number of
advanced technologies including wearable sensors, and could be integrated within the existing
climate control systems. This system could be easily adapted for monitoring of elderly, children or
other risk groups with minimum interference to their lifestyle. Furthermore the system could
provide alerts or automatic responses as it does on the plane.

Current and Potential Domain of Application
This system is an offspring development from a European project with a number of industrial
partners that has proposed and is developing a smart seat for an aeroplane. The current development
addresses the needs of the individual worker and is aiming to optimally set the environment
parameters so that minimum energy is required.
