New innovative opportunities for regional companies
A direct line connects the companies of Friuli Venezia Giulia with MIT - Massachusetts
Institute of Technology of Boston, USA.
Thanks to the recent agreement between AREA Science Park and MIT’s Industrial Liaison Program
(ILP), one of the world’s most prestigious research and development institutes for new technologies
has opened its laboratories to the regional businesses.
The agreement, a result of AREA’s new strategy aimed at providing the most innovative
companies with a range of excellent services to increase their competitive edge, offers these
companies privileged access to many customized services, skills and technologies available within
MIT.
The objectives are to effectively promote the birth of spin-off research companies and
facilitate the development of innovation in products, processes and management for all regional
companies.
Privileged access to new technologies.
As a first step, the specific interests of the regional territory will be
analyzed in order to identify – in priority areas – cutting-edge technologies and skills available
within MIT and applicable to local companies.
It is also possible to organize meetings between companies or potential entrepreneurs with
MIT or AREA researchers, to deepen research efforts on specific themes relevant to the leading
technologies developed by MIT.
Mobility and training.
The Industrial Liaison Program also promotes collaboration between MIT
departments and laboratories through student mobility. Institute students can perform research
activities and internships at MIT or at the laboratories and companies in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
High level meetings and conferences.
This agreement includes annual meetings between the AREA staff and MIT’s experts,
in order to examine the results of the most promising research and technologies that seem to be
most “important” to the territory’s industrial fabric. Efforts will also be made to facilitate
participation in conferences and workshops organized by MIT on specific themes.
